The new site was created to publicize Kristin Kimball’s adventure into the world of community supported agriculture (CSA) and Essex Farm. It features a stylized design with user experience at its core. Including a blog, events page, and information about Kristin Kimball, the website was created in support of Essex Farm and Kristin’s book, The Dirty Life.

Kristin grew up in central New York, graduated from Harvard, and moved to the Big Apple, New York City. She has worked at a literary agency, taught creative writing, and freelanced for magazines and travel guides.

During her time as a journalist, she interviewed a man named Mark. Mark was a die-hard farmer who’s passion for agriculture caused Kristin’s interest to develop beyond that of her current profession.

In 2004, Mark and Kristin founded Essex Farm – the world’s first full-diet CSA. Since, Essex has flourished, and Kristin has been busy at work, both farming and writing. With the publication of The Dirty Life, Kimball has also written for O Magazine, Vogue, Gourmet Live, and a variety of other publications.

In addition to the critical acclaim of her book, ranging from the New Yorker to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Essex has been featured in magazines such as Food & Wine.

With her new website design, Kristin will extend her online presence to match that of her book and farm’s popularity.

These queries are based on their system of social network microblogging that enables its users to send and read text posts, or Tweets, of up to 140 characters. The revelation about their huge monthly search volume is yet another indicator of why social media is important for your website or other web based business.
Twitter’s Monthly Searches Exceeds that of Yahoo! and Bing is a post from: WebSight Design, Inc. company blog.

Beaten only the ‘King of Search’ Google, Twitter is logging an astonishing 25+ billion searches per month. In fact, at less than thirty percent of Google’s monthly search volume, Twitter still handles more then two and a half times that of Yahoo! and about 6.3 times that of Bing. Search engine queries are as follows:

Search Engine

Global Monthly Searches

Google

>85 Billion

Twitter

>25.5 Billion

Yahoo!

~9.5 Billion

Bing

~4 Billion

This data includes all searches run by each search engine. In other words, any image search, YouTube search, etc. would count towards Google’s monthly searches. In fact searches on the Twitter.com website are technically significantly lower, but the vast array of applications and other websites which implement Twitter API calls, or queries of the Twitter database for direct reporting and use at another web location, drive a significantly higher Twitter monthly search data point.

Twitter monthly searches are based on their system of social network microblogging service that enables its users to send and read text posts, or Tweets, of up to 140 characters. This huge search volume may very well have inspired Google’s newest change in algorithm which attempts to keep up with rapid news releases and posts.

In terms of search engine optimization (SEO), the revelation about the huge monthly search volume is Twitter yet another indicator of why social media is important for your website or other web based business.

Rumors have been spreading around Wall Street and financial news outlets that the social media giant, Facebook, could be seeking $10 billion in
an IPO that could value the company at more than $100 billion. The Facebook IPO would be the largest by any technology or internet company to
date. According to Bloomberg’s anonymous sources, the Facebook IPO may even file before the end of the year; however, many speculate that this is an early estimate.

Although the company is the world’s largest social network, with members numbering over 800 million, it has been pressured by the U.S. Government to disclose its financial statements by no later than April of 2012, regardless of whether it goes public or not. Some suspect that this is the reason for the creation of the Facebook IPO.

In recent social networking news, LinkedIn, Groupon, and Pandora gone public as well, generating massive amounts of working capital for the companies. The Facebook IPO would dwarf these previous IPOs.

Groupon, the fastest company to reach a valuation of $1 billion, went public on November 4 this year. In the past several trading days, GRPN stock prices have plummeted by roughly 40%. Similarly, LinkedIn and Pandora Radio’s stock prices have been experiencing steep declines in value over the last few days. It is unclear if the leak about the Facebook IPO has been coincidental or causal in terms of these recent declines.

Facebook founder and chief executive, Mark Zuckerberg, has told reporters that Facebook would go public “when it makes sense … It’s honestly not something I spend time thinking about on a day-to-day basis.”

The real question: How will the Facebook IPO affect user experience, social media marketing, and the world of SEO?

With 16 years of experience in the web site design and development industry, WebSight Design offers a wide variety of business to business services, including website design, programming, web site hosting, and web site marketing.

Over the past few weeks, a bill regarding the censorship of certain websites and content has been circulating through congress. Known to some as the “American Censorship Act” and to others as the “Stop Online Piracy Act,” this act is targeted at protecting the intellectual property and other copyrights from online piracy. It will essentially open the door to an “Internet Blacklist” which will later become the target of prosecution by the government.

Many believe that this bill is a direct violation of American freedom as it restricts online access and, in some cases, freedom of speech.

Including a variety of high profile websites, more than 6,000 sites have signed up to fight against what they are calling the beginning of American censorship. More than 1 million individuals have also joined the cause, sending out concerned emails to congress members across the country.

In fact party members from both sides, Democrats and Republicans, are voicing their opposition to the bill. Nancy Pelosi (D) Tweeted, “Need to find a better solution than #SOPA #DontBreakTheInternet …” Republican House Representative Darrell Issa Re-Tweeted, “If even we agree … RT @NancyPelosi: Need to find a better solution than #SOPA.”

Spearheaded by AmericanCensorship.org, individuals and corporations alike are standing in opposition of what many believe to be a slippery slope and an attack on freedom of speech.

At the same time, corporations with interests in blocking websites which directly affect their sales and profits are in full support of the SOPA backed internet blacklist.

Microsoft, Nintendo, Sony, EA, and even Apple support the bill because if the US government was granted the power to block sites which offer music or other media for free, consumers would be forced to go back to paying the corporate giants for their services. This would mean huge profits, despite what would certainly mean website blocking, risk of jail for ordinary users, and a slew of new legal threats to website designers, owners, and online entrepreneurs.

After years of battle with several mobile device and operating system developers, Adobe Flash has finally admitted that Flash is NOT the way of the future. That’s right … Adobe abandons flash for all of its future mobile software. In exchange, the company will be promoting Adobe Air, supported by the previous rival, HTML5.

Adobe is has been involved with mobile software development using Flash since they released the programming tools in 1996. Since then, they have been involved with an ongoing battle with Apple, Google, and several other major companies. Flash is not preferred by these companies because of inflexibility and load time of the tool.

“HTML5 is now universally supported on major mobile devices, in some cases exclusively,” says Adobe VP Danny Winokur. This surprising news is an admission of defeat. While many find the Flash tool convenient and easy, developers claim loss in application performance when using in Flash’s non-native language as it gets translated into other languages.

With the development of Javascript, CSS, and HTML5, it’s no wonder this form of development is being abandoned.

Note: Websight Design works almost entirely with the fully supported Javascript.

WebSight Design’s Creative Director, Stephanie Long, participated in the first annual Kayenta Street Painting Festival, where she was awarded honors for best representation of her sponsor, the Biggest Loser’s Fitness Ridge Resort, in Ivins, Utah. The drawing, shown here, was a pair of running shoes, set against the red-rock desert landscape that is home to Fitness Ridge. The drawing was 10′ wide by 8′ tall. Unlike many other street painting events, the drawings were not washed away at the end of the weekend, but rather were allowed to fade with time and the natural elements.

While representing clients well might be a stretch for many fine artists, it’s second nature for WebSight Design, where we’ve been communicating clients’ branding and sales messaging for more than 15 years.

This is Stephanie’s second street painting festival, having participated in the Italian Street Painting Festival in San Rafael, California — the nation’s second-largest street painting event — in 2006. Drawing on the asphalt with brightly colored pastels is quite a break from manipulating pixels, but is a great way to get creative juices flowing, explore different artistic perspectives, and polish design skills. Event-goers enjoy such festivals because they get to see artists at work, and ask questions during the process.

WebSight Design understands how important search engine optimization (SEO) is to your site. Having bad SEO is like opening your shop in the middle of the desert, and forbidding people from having your phone number and address. Not much business is going to happen that way! But buyer beware, there are many different SEO scams out there, some of which could even get your site banned from Google. When it comes to SEO, you want experts who have years of industry experience and understand best practices.

Recently one of our SEO experts, Alan Bleiweiss, published a case study for StorageSeeker.com on Search Engine Journal, one of the premier SEO blogs online. In it he shares the methodology he used to get our client to the top of the first page of Google. Alan and the SEO team at WebSight Design are masters at best-practice SEO techniques and achieving awesome organic search results.
